Logan Airport: One of the Country’s Best for TSA Checkpoint Wait Times

Logan Airport, despite popular belief, is one of the best airports in the country for TSA checkpoint wait times. According to iFly, at the time this article was written, Logan’s current wait times were averaging about 15 minutes. Keep in mind, however, that this doesn’t mean that you should trim down the time buffer you should keep for your arrival; who knows what can happen, and it’s always best to be prepared.

Compared to airports across the country, Logan has the best wait times. This is due in part to a security briefing for all airport personnel at 8:30 every morning. This briefing allows different departments to share information on hotspots, possible security hang-ups, and the ability to collaborate to enhance the customer experience. The TSA had originally frowned on the sharing of information in this manner. However, with the recent appointment of Peter Neffenger as head of the TSA, this sort of information sharing will be more common.

Getting Through The Lines

There are still things you can do to speed up the process even further.

  1. Check your bags if you can. In the past, people have put all manner of things in their carry-ons (including a 20lb turkey!), causing a rise in random bag checks in recent years.
  2. Check a site like iFly.com for up to date wait times and plan accordingly. While wait times are rarely over 20 minutes, plan for extra time just in case.
  3. Check the TSA’s Prohibited Items List to make sure that everything you’ve packed is OK to have on board.
