Beverly, Massachusetts is located north of Boston along the coastline. It was originally settled in 1626 and played an early role in the founding of the US Navy where the first ship commission by the US Navy, the Hannah, was built. Beverly is also known for having the first cotton mill in America which was built in 1787. President William Howard Taft is known to have vacationed in Beverly Farms, a neighborhood in Beverly. Beverly Hills, California was eventually named after Beverly Farms since President Taft often vacationed there.
Today, Beverly is home to thousands of businesses and students. The Cummings Center in Beverly is home to two-thousand businesses and is a popular spot for medical offices and technical businesses. Endicott College is located in Beverly and has about 5,000 students. Also located in Beverly is Beverly Hospital and Beverly Municipal Airport. This airport is a small, city owned airport that mainly serves smaller, private planes. Beverly is not a popular tourist location, but has several hotels and bed and breakfasts close to Salem, Massachusetts which has many things to do for tourists. Residents of Beverly can enjoy five beaches, a golf course, yacht clubs or many of the parks located throughout the city. About half of the city is urbanized and the eastern part of the city has a more rural feel to the city.
