Danvers, Massachusetts is located on the North Shore in Massachusetts and is a city rich in history and business. Originally settled by Native Americans, colonists arrived around 1630 and resident Rebecca Nurse was involved in the Salem Witch Trials and was convicted of witchcraft. Her homestead still stands in Danvers and is available to visitors as a historical landmark. One of the most notable residents of Danvers is Israel Putnam who was a General in the American Revolution and led the Battle of Bunker Hill. In the 1800’s, Danvers became a hub for shoe manufacturing, but eventually these factories moved out of the city. The city was also known for its State Insane Asylum which has been featured in several books and movies before closing in 1992 and was demolished in 2006.
Today, Danvers is home to many large businesses and the top employers in Danvers include Osram Sylvania, North Shore Community College, Doubletree Boston North Shore, Fishery Products International, The Home Depot and Lowe’s. Danvers is not typically a popular landing spot for tourists, but it is a convenient spot for business travelers with its close proximity to Boston. Hilton, Marriott, Best Western and Econo Lodge all have hotels located in Danvers. St. Johns Preparatory School is a private high school and North Shore Community College are both located in Danvers. If you are visiting Danvers, you can visit the Rebecca Nurse Homestead or the General Israel Putnam House.
